By Inland Northwest Falun Dafa practitioners
Jason is an honest looking young man who heard about Falun Dafa a year ago at one of our workshops. He visited our booth at this year’s Earth Day celebration, and invited me to do a seminar on Falun Dafa during an upcoming April 25th concert event for local teens. He said the audience is a group of young people who really need guidance.
On April 26-27, 2003 we had a Conscious Living Expo to join, so I went to the concert event after setting up our Expo booth. Jason and his friends warmly welcomed me, and helped me carry things inside. I have lived in Spokane for 9 years, and in the United States for 16 years, but I have never been to a place quite like this. The young people rented an old, unheated building, and turn it into a “concert hall.” Although there is a sign on the front door that says “no smoking, no drinking, no drugs,” the smell of smoke emanated from every piece of furniture. There were many huge speaker boxes, few lights, a very crowded stage, and a dance floor made with cardboard under linoleum.
I helped them to set up the place as much as I could. Then I did the 5th exercise for a half-hour while they were still busy setting up. When they tried out their sound system, I heard loud music shouting out of those huge speaker boxes. A few kids were excited upon hearing the music, and danced on the floor. I recalled an old Chinese saying, one can not get the tiger’s prince without going into the tiger’s den. It is true to me; this music and dance was not very appealing. But Master doesn’t look at our shortcomings; he only looks at our good side. Master said in LA, “Master will definitely save all the beings in this world.” (Explaining the Fa During the 2003 Lantern Festival at the U.S. West Fa Conference). I maintained calm, quietly watching them while sending forth righteous thoughts. Jason soon told me that Falun Dafa was to be the first event on the evening’s schedule.
At 9 p.m., the beautiful Pudu and Jishi music flowed out of the huge sound system. I stood on the stage, facing a crowd of young people in the dark. They were shocked to hear such different music, and see me, a middle-aged Chinese lady, speaking about Falun Dafa. I felt Master was watching these kids with grand compassion. After a brief introduction, I stepped down from the stage, put the microphone away, and invited them to experience the powerful energy field during the exercises. Suddenly, like being pushed, more than 10 kids stepped forward from the crowd. We went through the five exercises together. Even though the room was unheated, I felt very warm during the exercise session. How wonderful that Jason invited us. Many kids picked up our resource CDs, Pudu/Jishi CDs, and the flyers. Many of them thanked me for joining the concert event. I saw beautiful smiles from every young face. I saw future Falun Dafa disciples in each restless soul.
I told the young people that we would have a Falun Dafa booth at the Conscious Living Expo on the following two days, to be held at the Spokane Convention Center, downtown. This was our 4th year participating in the Expo event. Although much different from the previous evening’s concert, the Expo was a success as well. People asked many questions, and many learned the exercises in our booth area. We had numerous in-depth talks with the visitors. Falun Dafa touched many hearts; I saw tears in men’s and women’s eyes. We sent forth righteous thoughts on the clock, and visited each booth to give them a flyer. People enjoyed our demonstrations and offered compliments. An elderly gentleman even gave me a big hug at the end of the event, thanking us for bringing such positive energy to the Expo.
