Falun Dafa Gradually Enters the Human Realm on Earth Day and World Tai Chi & Qi Gong Day in 2007
By Falun Dafa practitioners in Washington State
Saturday, April 21, 2007, marked the eighth year that Falun Dafa practitioners in Spokane, Washington were invited to join the Earth Day celebration. The first two years we only had one practitioner at our booth, who demonstrated the exercises all day and passed out “truth clarifying” materials. In 2002, two practitioners participated. By 2003, 4-5 practitioners were involved, and we were invited to speak on the stage and introduce Falun Dafa to the big crowd. We started teaching lotus flower-folding in 2003 as well.
This year’s Earth Day celebration in Spokane had new activities. The hosting group passed out two trivia question cards, and whoever filled the questions correctly by visiting each booth was rewarded with ice cream. Our group prepared a huge 12 by 10 foot canopy for the first time, due to the rainy weather. We hung lots of banners and posters around the canopy. Riverfront Park (in the downtown area) was extremely crowded despite the weather conditions. Many young people started looking for the answers for the question-cards in the morning. One of the questions was raised by one of the familiar hosting people along the lines of, “What are the three basic values that all the world’s people treasure?” The banners and posters around our canopy provided the answer: “Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance.”
Many passersby were moved by the serene energy of Falun Dafa. Three practitioners took turns demonstrating the exercises. One young girl was intrigued by the Falun Standing Stance, and asked for the meaning of it. A young boy around the age of ten wanted to learn how to sit in lotus position. He learned the fifth exercise very sincerely. Two of his young sisters were “envious” of their brother, so they learned as well. We were able to talk to many people about the persecution in China, and many people expressed their concern and their support for Dafa.
Our lotus folding table continued to be the busy spot of the event. We passed out around 300 paper lotus flowers in four hours. One young lady told us, “I decided I needed a lotus!” We were so happy for her good decision. So many people held the flower with both hands, while happiness filled their faces. Many parents read the meaning of the lotus flower that was printed on the back of the tag: “The lotus flower is a moral discipline reminder for everyone, because lotus flowers grow in the mud, but keep themselves very clean and elegant. In Asian culture, lotus flowers are symbols of highly virtuous individuals who maintain a high moral standard in a corrupted society.” Of course, even more people read the words on the front of the tag: “The World Needs Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance.”
The following Saturday, April 28, 2007, was the World Tai Chi & Qi Gong Day. The local Falun Gong practitioners have participated in this event since 2000 as well. Practitioners sent forth righteous thoughts, then demonstrated the exercises while many other groups were doing their movements. Many people took our free materials. When we opened our eyes after the standing exercises, we saw two ladies were doing the exercises with us by standing close to our circle. They learned and practiced the sitting meditation exercise together with us.
